The masterpieces of the Renaissance on the Rhine

Basel - Freiburg im Breisgau - Karlsruhe - Strasbourg - Colmar

The Renaissance was by no means limited to Italy. Rather, its light also shone as far north as the Rhine Valley and the Netherlands. While van Eyck and the Flemish Primitives achieved as much fame as the Italian master, the artists of the Upper Rhine, with the exception of Dürer, remain largely unknown to this day.

Therefore, Terra Nobilis invites you to discover the most beautiful treasures of this unjustly underestimated Rhenish Renaissance on a journey that takes you from Freiburg im Breisgau via Karlsruhe, Strasbourg and Basel to Colmar.

A journey for lovers of art and art history, on which you can see for yourself that the Renaissance - although it was born under the mild Tuscan sun - was a thoroughly European and also Rhenish endeavor at a time when the same cultural influence prevailed on both sides of the Rhine.
