Museum für Stadtgeschichte
Exhibits, models, paintings and documents explain the 4,000-year-old history of Breisach, which began in the Stone Age. Special attention is given to the ‘Breisacher Münsterberg' which served as home to a Celtic prince, Breisach in Roman times and as central location in the early medieval age, as well as to the largest and most modern fortresses in the 17th and 18th century. Other sections are dedicated to the St. Stephansmünster including items from the cathedral treasury, the numerous former monasteries, the castle that was constructed by the Zähringer and was destroyed in the 18th century, the garrison town (1893-1919) and the war damage in 1945. Visitors can find the museum restaurant ‘Museumsstüble' with an outdoor terrace next to the romantic lake Schwanenweiher.
